Compress Image to 10 KB

Compress a JPG, PNG, or WebP image to 10 KB or less. This page opens with a 10 KB target, a very tight limit used by some signature and small ID photo fields.

Accepted formats: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp · Maximum size: 20 MB

A PNG is compressed as WebP, since PNG has no quality setting for hitting an arbitrary size; transparency is preserved either way. Photo metadata (EXIF/GPS) is removed; visual orientation is kept.

What this tool does

Compress one image to 10 KB or less using the existing target-size compressor.

How to use

  1. Select one JPG, PNG, or WebP image. Cropping it to the part you need first gives the best result.
  2. Keep the 10 KB target selected.
  3. Compress the image, check the measured size and the new dimensions, and download it.

How the 10 KB target works

10 KB is smaller than most single thumbnails, so this page behaves differently from the larger presets:

  1. If your image is already under 10 KB, you get the original file back, untouched.
  2. Otherwise the compressor first tries the highest quality that fits at full size.
  3. Quality alone almost never gets a phone photo to 10 KB, so it then shrinks the dimensions in steps of 15% and searches again, until the file fits.
  4. The result is offered only after its real file size has been measured and confirmed to be at or under 10 KB.

The practical consequence: the output will be a small image. A 12-megapixel photo usually ends up a few hundred pixels wide. That is expected, not a malfunction, and it is what a 10 KB limit requires.

Getting a better 10 KB result

Do this Why it helps
Crop to the part you need first Every pixel you remove from the frame is a pixel you don't have to shrink
Start from a plain background Flat areas compress far better than textured ones
Prefer a signature on white paper over a photo of a signature Mostly-white images fit in 10 KB at a much larger size
Keep text large Small print becomes unreadable long before the size limit is met

Check the result at full size before you submit. If a face or a signature is no longer recognizable, the form's limit is too tight for that image, and a higher preset such as Compress Image to 20 KB may be accepted instead.

FAQ

Why does my image get so small at 10 KB?

A 10 KB file can hold only a small number of pixels at an acceptable quality. The compressor lowers quality first and reduces the dimensions only as far as needed, so the final width and height are shown with the result.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The image is decoded and re-encoded in your browser. It never leaves your device, which matters for signatures and ID photos.

Can I get exactly 10 KB?

The output is always at or below 10 KB, not exactly 10 KB. The compressor keeps the highest quality that fits.

The form wants 10 to 20 KB, which should I use?

Use this page and then check the size. If the form accepts up to 20 KB, Compress Image to 20 KB keeps more detail.

I need a size that isn't listed.

Why 10 KB usually means fewer pixels

At 10 KB, lowering quality alone is almost never enough: a phone photo has millions of pixels and has to be made much smaller, often to a few hundred pixels wide. Docspira lowers quality first, then shrinks the dimensions step by step until the file fits, down to a floor of 64 pixels on the short side. Expect a small image, crop to the part you need before compressing, and check that faces and text are still readable.
